In 2024, CO2balance made remarkable strides in delivering measurable climate impacts through its community-based carbon projects, most notably, our Safe Water Projects. By investing in low-carbon technologies such as safe water solutions and improved cookstoves, these projects have positively impacted thousands of lives whilst significantly reducing carbon emissions.
Top contributors to carbon credit issuances in 2024:
- Mozambique and Zambia: The partnership between Village Water and CO2balance has made a significant impact on both Mozambican and Zambian projects by providing safe drinking water to rural communities. Through the rehabilitation of safe water systems, the collaboration not only improves access to safe water but also reduces carbon emissions associated with traditional water treatment practices. As a result of our collaboration with Village Water, we have successfully generated a total of 1,004,000 credits with 789,000 coming from two safe water projects in Mozambique and the remaining 215,000 from a safe water project in Zambia.
- Uganda: with our in-country team, CO2balance Uganda, we have successfully implemented 5 safe water projects spanning Eastern, Central and Northern Uganda. As a result, we have served a total of 431,470 people through the rehabilitation of safe, clean drinking water supply. With the support from CO2balance Uganda, we have avoided a total of 283,000 tonnes CO2e across our Ugandan Safe Water Projects.
- Rwanda: In partnership with Rwanda Peace & Progress, CO2balance have distributed 85,000+ improved cookstoves across three districts of Rwanda. In 2024, the Rwanda Improved Cookstove project was granted its first and largest issuance resulting in a total of 163,000 credits for the first 49,000 ICS devices distributed.
- Malawi: In partnership with CO2balance, Self Help Africa have rehabilitated over 600 boreholes across safe water projects in Malawi resulting in a total of 135,000 credits.
