Our story
Twenty years of integrity first
CO2balance’s story begins in 2003. With climate change concerns gaining traction in the media, a group of friends saw opportunities in the UK to contribute to efforts to offset global emissions.
Our first project, the planting of Bishops Wood, a new woodland near Morchard Bishop in Devon, United Kingdom, began what is now an organisation with over 15 million carbon credits issued through numerous projects.
As a founding member of the International Carbon Reduction and Offset Alliance (ICROA), and a market leader in ethical carbon project development, we have always placed integrity at the forefront of our work.
In 2017 we became the first organisation to pilot SDG 5 Gender Responsive, receiving certification from The Gold Standard in 2019. Through our international portfolio, we work to advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals while helping clients make real impact in tackling climate change.

2003
Company founded
CO2balance launched with a commitment to ethical, community-led carbon project development.
2005
First woodland planted
Bishops Wood in Devon became our first verified carbon project and set the tone for practical climate action.
2007
Kenya office opens
Our first African office supported efficient lightbulb and improved cookstove delivery on the ground.
2019
Gender Responsive certification
The first organisation globally to receive Gold Standard Gender Responsive certification.
2023
New Bristol headquarters
