Rail

UK national rail, light rail, London Underground and a Eurostar reference for international journeys.

Calculate rail

Car

Petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric. Account for car size, journey distance and the people sharing it.

Flight

Domestic and international flights, cabin class and a separate allowance for aviation’s additional warming effect.

Make your estimate useful

Bring the right details

Have your one-way distance, number of travellers and travel type ready. Use the road or rail route distance for land journeys, and the direct airport-to-airport distance for flights.

Understand what is covered

The travel calculator uses 2026 UK Government factors and shows its assumptions. Car and domestic rail estimates use UK averages; international rail uses a Eurostar reference. Fuel and energy supply are included, while vehicle manufacture and infrastructure are excluded.

Decide what comes next

Use the result to understand your journey and consider ways to reduce emissions. If you want to support verified carbon projects, carry the estimate into a purchase-options enquiry for our team to review.

Looking at your business footprint?

A business footprint extends beyond travel. Our carbon management team can help you define the activities to include, review your data and plan your next steps.

Using the calculators

Is an estimate a verified carbon footprint?

No. These tools apply published factors to the activity details you enter. Their scope and assumptions are shown with the result. A formal organisational footprint needs an agreed boundary, appropriate data and a review of the relevant emissions sources.

Does calculating emissions commit me to buying credits?

No. You can use the calculator without submitting an enquiry. If you ask for purchase options, CO2balance will confirm the project, quantity, price and retirement arrangements before you decide whether to proceed.
