Improved cookstoves prepared for distribution in Rwanda
Improved cookstoves

Rwanda Clean Cookstoves Project

Efficient household stoves that reduce firewood demand, cooking smoke and pressure on local biomass resources.

Project overview

Climate finance connected to practical delivery

Community delivery supported through carbon finance and project monitoring.

Wood fuel is central to household cooking in rural Rwanda. Traditional three-stone fires are inefficient, draw heavily on biomass resources and expose cooks and families to smoke in the home.

The project distributes improved cookstoves in Bugasera District. Their higher efficiency reduces the amount of firewood needed for cooking and supports lower greenhouse gas emissions.

How the project works

Delivery backed by monitoring

The project record reports more than 20,000 improved cookstoves distributed in the Eastern Province. Project monitoring covers stove use, fuel consumption and the evidence required for certification.

Using less fuel can also reduce time spent collecting firewood and reduce household exposure to cooking smoke, with particular relevance for women and children.

Wider outcomes

Climate impact alongside community priorities

Project monitoring can cover emissions reductions together with locally relevant outcomes. The applicable indicators and certification claims depend on the project design and monitoring period.
