Project fit

Start with the physical project

Biochar credits begin with a workable production system, not with a carbon calculation. The biomass source, existing use of that material, pyrolysis technology, product quality and final application all affect whether a project can follow a credible certification pathway.

We assess those fundamentals early so that organisations can understand the evidence, investment and operating systems likely to be required before committing to full project development.

From biomass resource to verified removal

Every project is different, but the evidence must follow the material from its original source through production and into its documented end use.

Establish biomass type, ownership, availability, current use and transport requirements.

Produce

Define the pyrolysis equipment, operating conditions, emissions controls and production records.

Test

Confirm biochar characteristics through appropriate sampling and laboratory analysis.

Maintain the chain of custody and evidence for storage, transport and final application.

Prepare the project for validation, monitoring, independent verification and issuance.

What we assess

A project does not need to be fully operational before an initial conversation. Clear information about the present position is more useful than an optimistic forecast.

Volumes, seasonality, competing uses, ownership and supply agreements.

Technology and operations

Equipment status, throughput, energy use, process controls and plans for scaling.

Biochar quality

Available laboratory results, sampling approach and intended product specification.

Monitoring and traceability

Before you submit a project

Does a project need to be operating already?

No. We can review projects at concept, pilot or operational stage. The assessment will reflect what evidence is currently available.

Is every biomass source suitable?

No. Eligibility depends on the feedstock, its origin, its existing use and the requirements of the selected methodology.

Do we need laboratory results?

Existing results are helpful, but their absence does not prevent an initial review. Testing requirements can be considered as part of the development plan.

Does completing the questionnaire guarantee certification?

No. It provides information for an initial assessment. Certification requires an eligible project design, appropriate monitoring and independent validation and verification.
