Project overview

Climate finance connected to practical delivery

Implemented with Vita and community water committees.

Handpumps and protected springs are important rural water infrastructure in Ethiopia. Without regular maintenance, water points can fall into disrepair and communities may return to more distant or unprotected sources.

CO2balance works with Vita to support rehabilitation, maintenance and Gold Standard certification. Water committees help manage each source and keep the surrounding area protected from contamination.

How the project works

Delivery backed by monitoring

The project combines physical water point work with community-led sanitation and hygiene activity. Protected springs extend the delivery model beyond boreholes where local hydrogeology makes them appropriate.

Reliable water access can reduce time spent collecting water and fuel for boiling, giving households more time for education, family life and economic activity.

Wider outcomes

Climate impact alongside community priorities

Project monitoring can cover emissions reductions together with locally relevant outcomes. The applicable indicators and certification claims depend on the project design and monitoring period.
