Project Overview

Biomass, mainly firewood, accounts for at least 86% of Guatemala’s energy use. In rural areas, 98% of households rely on wood for cooking, typically using inefficient three-stone fires. This leads to unsustainable biomass depletion, harmful indoor air pollution, environmental strain, and extra labour for wood collection.

Project Impacts

The project will distribute 15,000 improved cookstoves across Guatemala, reducing firewood use, emissions, cooking time, and indoor air pollution. This helps lower respiratory diseases, a major health issue. The fuel-efficient stoves also ease the burden on those collecting wood and cooking, improving efficiency and reducing environmental harm.
